1968 Black Hornet
Owned by | American Muscle Car Sales
Shelby used a 1967 Mustang Coupe (known as Little Red) as a test mule for styling, engineering, and performance components. Shortly thereafter came a 1968 coupe test mule called the Green Hornet. Both cars were used and abused, filled with giant, prototype engines, and discarded.
The Green Hornet served as a test mule for new technologies such as independent rear suspension, electronic fuel injection, power antenna and four wheel disc brakes.
In 2003, Legendary G.T. conceived and built a Shelby-approved copy of the Green Hornet, but outfitted in Stetson Black paint. It was called the EXP500 (or Black Hornet) and outfitted with a 428ci V-8 engine and much of the go-fast equipment Shelby American would have been developing in 1968. In 2008, Mr. Shelby sold the Black Hornet on eBay and donated the proceeds to the Carroll Shelby Children’s Foundation.
